Brick Tank WIP

Personal Project .

The white Knights of Mars ! Join today!!!

I really just wanted  to do a semi futuristic Mega tank nicknamed "The Brick Tank "so here's the first roughs .I did a lot of figuring out on this one to the point that i could see through the paper:)
you can see that I explored little bits off  to the sides knowing that i would be retracing it all after .

I inked the original but kinda didn't like how it looked .the lines were too fat and kind of killed some of the energy soooo.....

*note the giant cat hair

I light boxed over the inks !I left it as pencils and just cleaned it up in Photoshop .it gave me the chance to fix a few things .Some of its pretty organic but i like that.

This a rough color /value pass .this could change quite a bit once i dig into it .

Whilst traveling in Italy sketches # 1

the view from our Deck in Florence .We had a small court yard sort of thing that was totally enclosed that was sort of cool and shady .awesome for relaxing but not so awesome for drying clothes on our metal rack .Travel note :no one has Dryers in Italy! for reals. Only George Clooney and Laundromats and the rich .

random robot i think influenced by the Juan Gimenez book i picked up

Transport ship Concept

well im calling it done. This was a massive lesson in perspective and establishing it early so you dont spend the entire time putting band-aids on everything ! takes a lot longer and i think ultimately ended up with something over rendered .With that said if success is measure in things learned then this was a success .thanks for all who contributed feed back in the process!

Speed painting."Marooned"

hour and a half? we started doing themed speed paintings at work and its a total blast!its nice to pull the art cork out of my ass and just try and get an idea across.

this is another "speed painting " i did last week that was anything but .spent hours and hours and got totally bogged down in noodling.gah.Some little parts of it i am OK with and  I did learn a few things and make some decent brushes  but i think there's alot that got lost in this. oh well on to the next.

StarJack Star-fighter Process Wip

Heres the steps on the Starjack varients.

  • Do your initial Sketch
  • Scan in the drawing and remember the settings for some later steps. That or just don't change them;)
  • Impose some rough Geo using a 3d program. This was just ment to be a guide for me seeing as im still struggling with perspective.the nice part is theres nothing "true" about the Geo placement i just rotated the shapes until they looked right. I wouldn't necessarily do this step every time.
  • Now print out your images. The important step was to print the image on the page and let it do it at its native resolution which should be 1:1 with the original .
  • Draw all the crazy stuff you want to add!!Weeeeee!!!
  • Scan the new drawings in using the original scanner settings .because the image is 1:1 you can copy paste the new detail drawings over your original in Photoshop.Line them up .
  • erase the crappy parts of the new Drawing revealing the original underneath.
  • Done!

Space Squirrel painted

got him finished last week but just now posting him .scanning these paintings doesn't seem to do them justice but i think its not  helping that there recently gloss coated either.Still trying to get a method down for finishing my stuff:/
The pumpkin paining i did a few weeks ago was a lesson in quickly under coating with color as well as some real simple shadow work which i used here as well.I mixed burnt sienna, yellow and white and thinned it down as a wash then pure burnt sienna to block in the shadows and shape .

originally I had worked in a brownish bounce light onto the blue metallic suit but it looked very confused and didn't give the viewer any good clear information so i painted it out .
